Cat Quilts: How to Choose a Cat Quilt Set for Your Bed

A good cat quilt is a lightweight, quilted bedspread printed with cats that you can use on its own in warm months or layer over a duvet when it gets cold. To choose one, start with your mattress size, then pick a print that suits your room, check the fabric and care label, and decide whether you want matching shams to make it a full set. This guide walks through each step, with real examples from our cat quilt collection.
What is a cat quilt, and how is it different from a comforter?
A quilt is thin. It has three layers: a printed top, a light filling and a back, all stitched together. That stitching is the "quilting" you see as little wavy lines across the surface.
A comforter is thicker and puffier. It is made to be the warm layer on your bed.
So a cat quilt does a few jobs well:
- It is your only top layer on warm nights.
- It goes over a duvet or blanket in winter, so the cat print stays on show.
- It folds up at the end of the bed and works as a throw on the sofa.
If you sleep hot, a quilt alone is often enough. If you run cold, plan to layer.
Step 1: Pick the right cat quilt size
Size is the part people get wrong most often. Our quilts come in Twin, Full/Queen and King.
- Twin fits a single or twin bed, a kids' room or a guest daybed.
- Full/Queen covers both a full and a queen mattress.
- King suits a king bed, or a queen if you like the quilt to hang lower on the sides.
Here is a simple tip. If your mattress is extra deep, or you want the quilt to hide the box spring, go one size up. A quilt that is too small slides off and shows the sheet underneath, and that is the first thing you notice when you make the bed.
Check the size guide on the product page before you order. Measure your mattress width and length, then add the drop you want on each side.
Step 2: Choose a print that fits your bedroom
Cat quilts range from calm to loud. Think about the room first, then the cat.
Busy, colorful prints work in a plain room. If your walls, rug and headboard are neutral, a bold quilt becomes the one bright thing everyone looks at. The Library Nap Tabby Cat Quilt is a good example. A striped tabby sleeps on a nook of cushions, with rows of colorful book spines all around.

Softer prints suit a bedroom that already has pattern in it, like a floral rug or busy curtains. Look for cream, white or pastel backgrounds.
Match the cat to your cat. Many cat moms pick a print that looks like their own pet. In our collection you will find black cats, tabbies, ginger kittens and a ragdoll, so it is worth scrolling the whole range before you choose.
Think about the season. Christmas and Halloween prints are fun, but you will swap them out after a month or two. If you only buy one cat quilt, pick a print you will like all year.
Step 3: Check the fabric and the back
Look past the print and read the details. On our quilts, the product pages list:
- Fabric: 100% microfiber polyester.
- Build: quilted through all three layers, so the filling stays in place.
- Back: a clean white reverse. The cat print is on the top only.
Microfiber is light and soft, and it dries quickly after a wash. If you share your bed with a cat, a quilt you can wash often matters more than a thick, heavy one.
A white back has one more use. Flip the quilt over and you have a plain bed for the days you want a quieter look.
Step 4: Decide if you want a full cat quilt set
A "cat quilt set" usually means the quilt plus two matching pillow shams. Shams are decorative pillow covers that sit in front of your sleeping pillows. They pull the whole bed together.
The quilts in our cat quilt collection are sold on their own, and the matching shams are sold separately in the same print. That means you can:
- Buy the quilt alone if you already have pillows you love.
- Add the matching shams for the full hotel-style look in the photos.
- Mix one print on the quilt with a calmer sham, if you prefer.
The Starry Night Ginger Kittens Quilt shows what a full set looks like. Four fluffy ginger kittens sit on a log under a swirling night sky, and the shams repeat the same scene above them.

How our cat quilts are made and cared for
Every PawMoM cat quilt is made to order. Here is how that works, using only what is on our product pages and shop policies:
- Made for you in 3 to 5 days. Your quilt is made after you place your order.
- Shipping takes 7 to 15 days in the US after that. So plan on the production days plus the shipping days when you buy a quilt as a gift.
- US shipping is $6, and free on orders over $50. Every quilt in the collection is priced over $50.
- It arrives folded in a reusable cotton gift bag, so it is ready to give.
Care tip: Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and tumble dry low. Do not bleach. If it needs it, iron on low.
If your quilt arrives wrong, damaged or defective, we reprint it free or refund you.
Cat quilt prices: what to expect
Our cat quilts start at $79 for a Twin. The Full/Queen is $109 and the King is $119. Shams cost extra, since they are sold separately.
When you compare quilts from different shops, check three things:
- Is it one quilt, or a quilt plus shams?
- Which sizes are offered, and are they true to the mattress?
- Is the print on one side or both?
Those answers explain most of the price gaps you will see.
Cat quilt FAQ
Can I use a cat quilt on its own?
Yes. A quilt is light enough to be your only top layer in spring and summer. In winter, put it over a duvet or blanket.
Will cat hair stick to a microfiber quilt?
Some hair will cling to any bedding. A lint roller or a quick shake outside clears most of it. Because the quilt can go in the washing machine, it is easy to keep fresh.
What size cat quilt do I need for a queen bed?
Choose Full/Queen. Go up to King if your mattress is deep or you want more drop on the sides.
Is a cat quilt a good gift?
It is one of the easiest gifts for a cat mom, because it gets used every day. Pick a print that looks like her cat, and allow 3 to 5 days to make it plus 7 to 15 days to ship in the US.
