Pet Face Blanket: What It Is and How to Make One

A pet face blanket is a soft throw printed with your pet's face. We cut the face out of your own photograph and repeat it across the whole blanket. It tiles edge to edge, so you see that little face everywhere you look. To make one, you upload a clear front-facing photograph, select a background color and a size, and add your pet's name.

What is a pet face blanket?

Most pet photo blankets display a single picture in the middle. A pet face blanket reverses that. It isolates only the face, eliminates everything behind it, and repeats that face in rows across the fabric.

On our Everywhere You Look blanket, the face appears dozens of times, with one or two larger portraits among the smaller ones. For dogs, little bones and paw prints fill the gaps. For cats, the filler is fish. Your pet's name sits between the faces on a solid background color you select.

From across the room, the result reads as a pattern. Up close, it is clearly your dog or your cat, again and again.

Who a pet face blanket is for

It suits almost any pet owner with a sense of humor:

  • The proud dog or cat mom whose furry friend is already her phone lock screen.
  • Families with one pet everyone adores. A big size covers two or three people on the sofa.
  • Secret Santa and white elephant swaps, where a personalized gift generates a reaction and still earns its keep.
  • Homes with more than one pet, since some designs tile several faces together.

It also works as a memorial. Select a happy photograph and the blanket feels comforting rather than sad.

How to make a pet face blanket, step by step

The process takes a few minutes, and it requires no design experience.

  1. Pick your photo. One clear, well-lit photograph of your pet's face is sufficient.
  2. Open the design studio. Upload the photograph, type the name, and select a background style and blanket color.
  3. Watch the preview. It updates automatically as you make changes, so you can evaluate the repeat before you order.
  4. Choose a size. Five fleece sizes are available, from a 30×40 lap blanket to a 60×80 throw.
  5. Add it to your cart. We print and finish the blanket after you complete your order.

A few holiday designs operate differently. On the Teal Starry Pet Face Repeat Photo Blanket you select the size and add names in the order note. We then email you to collect your photos and confirm the artwork before printing.

How to choose the best photo

The photograph matters more than anything else. A face repeated twenty or thirty times magnifies every imperfection.

  • Face the camera. A straight-on or slightly turned head works best. A side profile loses an ear or an eye.
  • Include both ears. Once we cut the face out of the background, cropped ears look unnatural.
  • Shoot in daylight near a window. Flash discolors eyes green or white.
  • Choose a happy face. An open-mouth smile or a curious head tilt holds up well repeated.
  • Skip heavy filters. Filters alter fur color, and that alteration becomes visible on fabric.

A sharp phone photograph is normally sufficient. Black and white photographs also work, provided there is strong contrast against the background. On our holiday designs we handle the cut-out and the artwork for you.

Choosing a size and blanket color

Consider where the blanket will live.

  • 30×40 — a lap blanket for a reading chair, a car seat or a pet bed.
  • 40×50 and 40×60 — enough for one adult on the sofa.
  • 50×60 — generous enough to share.
  • 60×80 — full length, made to stretch out under or lay across a bed.

Contrast determines how effective the pattern looks. A golden dog contrasts beautifully against blue or teal. A black cat stands out on a pale shade. When your pet's fur sits close to the background color, the faces disappear into it and the blanket appears muddy.

Pet face blanket or pet portrait blanket?

Shoppers often compare these against custom pet portraits. A pet portrait blanket prints one large likeness of your pet, usually illustrated in the style of a pet portrait painting.

A pet face blanket uses the real photograph and repeats it. Portraits read as artwork. Face repeats read as pattern, and they usually produce the bigger reaction.

If you prefer the single-image look, our dog photo blanket designs print one photograph large and centered.

Pet face blanket FAQ

Can I put more than one pet on a pet face blanket?

Yes, on selected designs. The Teal Starry Pet Face Repeat blanket tiles several pets' faces together. The Everywhere You Look design repeats one pet's face alongside their name.

Does it work for cats and other pets?

Yes. The Everywhere You Look blanket accommodates any dog or cat. Cats receive little fish in the pattern instead of bones and paw prints.

Will the photo look blurry?

Not if you begin with a sharp, well-lit photograph. A soft or dark original remains blurry once printed.

How long does a pet face blanket take to arrive?

We make each blanket in 3–5 days. US shipping takes a further 7–15 days, so allow approximately two to three weeks in total.

How do I wash a pet face blanket?

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors and tumble dry low. Do not use bleach.
