Personalized Pet Memorial Blanket: How to Choose One

The best personalized pet memorial blanket is the one that looks like your pet as you remember them. That means a clear photo or their name, a few words that sound like you, and a soft fabric in a size you will really use. It does not need to be the biggest or the fanciest. It needs to be the one you want to pull over your knees on a quiet evening.
Losing a pet is hard. Choosing a keepsake should not be. Here is what to look at, one small choice at a time.
What a personalized pet memorial blanket is
It is a soft blanket printed with your pet's photo, their name, or both. Most also carry a short line of words. Each one is made to order, so no two are the same.
The nice thing about a blanket is that you use it. A frame sits on a shelf. A blanket lives on the sofa, on the bed, or in the sunny spot where they used to nap. And it works for any pet: a dog, a cat, a rabbit, a horse, a bird.
Photo, name, or both?
This is the first choice, and there is no wrong answer.
A photo blanket shows their real face. Pick this if you have one picture you love. Our Whenever You Miss Me Blanket sets your photo on a soft watercolor background, with the line “Whenever you miss me, snuggle this blanket.”
A collage blanket holds three to five photos. It suits a long life with many chapters: the first week home, the beach trip, the grey muzzle.
A name blanket with no photo uses an illustration instead. Some people do not have a good photo. Some are not ready to see one every day yet. Both are okay. On our Lakeside Goodbye Pet Memorial Blanket, two pets sit side by side on a dock at sunset. You pick each pet, add their names, and choose who wears the angel wings. It is a gentle choice for two friends who were always together.
You can see every style in our Memorial & Remembrance collection.

How to pick the photo
Choose the photo that looks most like them. Not the most polished one. The one that makes you say, “Yes, that's my baby.”
A few simple things help it print well:
- Use the original photo from your phone, not a screenshot.
- Pick one taken in daylight.
- Make sure their face is sharp and you can see their eyes.
- Leave a little space around their head and ears.
No good photo on your phone? Ask family and friends. Someone often has a better one saved.
What words to put on it
Keep it short. A name is enough.
Some of our designs come with a line already written. Others have room for their name, and a few have room for their years too.
Use the name you called them at home. The silly one counts. If “Mr. Biscuit” is what you said every morning, that is the name that belongs on the blanket.
Then check the spelling twice. It is a small thing that matters a lot later.
What size to choose
Our memorial blankets come in five sizes, from 30×40 inches to 60×80 inches.
- 30×40 in. Lap size. Good for a chair, or to fold in their old spot.
- 40×50 or 40×60 in. A roomy throw for one person.
- 50×60 in. The classic sofa throw. If you are not sure, choose this one.
- 60×80 in. Big enough to share on the sofa or lay across a bed.
If it is a gift, think about where they sit most. A throw for the sofa gets used every day.
Fleece or sherpa?
Both are soft. The difference is weight.
Fleece is light and smooth. It folds small and works all year.
Sherpa adds a thick, fluffy backing. It is warmer and feels heavier, which is lovely in winter. We offer sherpa backing on our three larger sizes.
Both are machine washable. Wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors, and tumble dry low. No bleach. So go ahead and use it. A memorial blanket should not live in a drawer.

How we make yours at PawMoM
Every PawMoM memorial blanket is made to order. Nothing is printed until you ask for it. Here is how it works:
- Open the blanket you like and pick your size and backing.
- Upload your photo, or choose your pets on the illustrated designs. Then add the name.
- Watch the preview update as you go, so you see your design before you order.
- Add it to your cart. We print and finish your blanket just for you.
Making it takes 3 to 5 business days. After that it ships, and US delivery takes 7 to 15 days. Shipping is free on orders over $50. If you need it for a certain date, order a little early.
One more thing. Because it is made for you, a personalized blanket cannot be returned for a change of mind. But if it arrives wrong, damaged or faulty, we reprint it free or refund it.
If the blanket is for someone else
A memorial blanket is a kind thing to send a friend who has lost a pet. Two tips.
First, you need a photo. Ask their partner or a family member. If you cannot get one, choose a name design instead.
Second, do not worry about being late. It does not have to arrive in the first week. A few weeks later, when the messages have gone quiet, it can mean even more.
Add a short note with their pet's name in it. That is all it needs.
A gentle last word
There is no perfect blanket, and no right time to order one. Every pet mom says goodbye in her own way.
Choose the photo that makes you smile, the name you always used, and a size you will reach for. Then let it live on the sofa, where they did.
